FAQs about
the McQuiston Family

scotland.jpg

Where does the McQuiston family come from?

McQuiston means "Sons of Uisdean." Uisdean is the Gaelic spelling for the name Hugh. The McQuiston Family is part of one of the Clan Donald of Scotland on the Isle of Skye off the west coast of Great Britain.  The descendents of  Hugh MacDonald (d. 1498) petitioned the Baron MacDonald to create the name McQuiston.

Our McQuiston legacy can be traced back to Alexander McQuiston, but little is known about him. According to the published McQuiston geneaology, Thomas McQuiston, Alexander's son and father of "Grandpa Tom," was born in July 1832 in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh area), PA. I'm not certain that this is correct, because neither Alexander nor Thomas are listed in the United States census until 1850.

What's the story about the three brothers all about?

The majority of McQuistons in the United States are descendents of a set of three brothers: James, Robert and Thomas. Our particular McQuiston line does not trace back to these American immigrants, but the genealogy is not complete.

FAQs about
BAYOU LEGACY

How do I get copies of the photographs on LEGACY?

Simply "right click" on the photograph and you can save it to the hard drive on your computer. Once it is on your computer you can print it or email it. It's also a good idea to save all your family photographs to a folder dedicated just for them.

Why do some photographs include birthdays and others do not?

Vital information, such as birthdays, are only included for family members who are deceased. Non-vital information, such as location and date of the photograph, is included when available.

FAQs about
the Dupree Family

Where does the Dupree family come from?

Originally, the spelling was Dupre, but the spelling changed to Dupree when Ernest and Andrew Dupree settled in Plaquemine, LA.

Our Dupree legacy can be traced back to Jean Dupre probably born around 1733 in the Bourdeaux region of France. His grandson Jean Maturin Dupre, Sr. was born in St. Servan, France, and was married to Olive Naquin in Plattenville, LA.  No records appear for them in Canada. Though our family has other lines, such as the Naquins, that trace to the Acadians of Canada, it is possible that the Dupre family never lived in Canada.  If this were the case, Dupre would not be a Cajun family, but a truly French family.
